IMHO the phase when custom MTB builders began making road frames are a personal favorite of mine, because most frames borrowed details from the MTB frames that where unorthodox for road bikes at the time. This Mountain Goat for example shares the wishbone rear stays with the mountain bike frames. Mountain Goat MTB frames are quite skinny so the difference between the MTB and road bike Mountain Goats are actually not that big.
